It’s late September 2019 when a young astronomer working at the Haleakala Space Observatory in Maui, Hawaii, accidentally spots a black dot in the night sky that is occulting the stars that lie behind it. The Earth-sized black sphere is in our solar system, is calculated to be closely trailing Earth by only seventy-five million miles…and is on the same ecliptic plane.
Carrick’s father died before he was born. His entire life has been an endless journey to find what was missing; to somehow fill the void in his heart by studying the black void of space. Now it seems that every decision he ever made was leading him to the dark menace closely trailing Earth.
Erik has been alone in The Triad for seventy-five years. Studying his planet’s history has brought him to one inevitable conclusion: mankind’s greatest flaw is its inability to learn from its past mistakes.
What happens next will bridge the planetary gap between Earth and Zenith; life and death; time and space; and will result in a heartbreaking story of love, family, and the true nature of mankind’s past, present, and future.
After Erik Erickson, the last resident of Black Earth arrived in 2024; he was greeted with a hero’s welcome by nearly all people on Earth. Some, however, questioned if he or planet Zenith were real or simply a lie. A fabrication by the United States Government, thought, many conspiracy theorists.
As Erik toured planet Earth, telling everyone the truths of Zenith and all the riches that it held, some countries thought they could bypass a U.N. Resolution and go it alone to the black menace. Zenith closely trailed Earth by only seventy-five million miles and the race ‘Back to Black Earth’ was on.
What truths found on Zenith could propel a country to be the only super-power on Earth? What would a country do to own advanced propulsion systems and medical cures to every known disease, afflicting humans since the beginning of time? And, what of the passenger manifests from the migration shuttles? Who was on those shuttles? Perhaps some of Earth’s most famous and infamous historical figures.

Black Earth Customer Reviews
Black Earth – Great story. Great read from front to back. Has a good storyline that has something in store for everyone. Highly recommend!
Michael Cook is one damn good story-teller! – Black Earth will grab you at the get-go…but lots of books do that. What’s different about this one, is that it will reward you with a hundred little (and not so little) “wow” along the way. It’s not a roller coaster of emotion…it’s “damn the torpedo’s, full speed ahead” kinda stuff. I didn’t want to put it down and got to a point in the book where I couldn’t. Science Fiction? Maybe…but not so technical that you need to be Albert Einstein to understand it. Sorta like a hammering drama that just happens to take place on another planet! I don’t think I’ve cheered or cried reading a book ever, but came close as the pages turned to the final chapter. It’s lots of fun and I cannot imagine anyone not enjoying it. Cannot wait to read another story…doesn’t have to be in outer space. Michael was just a great story-teller.
Few books I have read are as captivating as this novel here. Starting with the narration style. Characters are diverse and well detailed; the emotion of the characters is felt throughout the book. The writer makes great diligence of using scientific research to back claims it has made in the story. Making the flow of the book strong and without contradiction. The characters hold values, opinions, and ideas, giving them a uniqueness that plays into the emotional stance of the book. Another note to make is that there seem to be hints of hidden meaning, asking the questions of the origin and existence of man. Much like a utopian or even dystopian novel, it teaches a lesson. I definitely would recommend this book to anyone who seeks an adventure in space and is curious in the potential origin of this world.
